Irina De Baghy

A Canadian mezzo-soprano, Irina de Baghy made her debut in musicals at a very young age. Later, she attended the master classes of jazz artists. It was in 1999 that she discovered her passion for opera during her studies at Bishop's University (Lennoxville, Quebec). She then came to study in France and, after graduating from the Schola Cantorum with Jacqueline Bonnardot, she pursued a DESS in "Art of Recital" at the University of Paris III-Sorbonne with Françoise Tillard and recently obtained her DFS at the CNSMD in Paris in the class of Peggy Bouveret.

She has also worked with Rachel Yakar, François le Roux, Nathalie Stutzmann, René Jacobs and Teresa Berganza. Throughout her training, Irina de Baghy has won numerous awards including The Friends of Music Award, The Howard Brown Prize in Music and the Top Graduating Student University Award. She has just received a scholarship from the École normale de musique de Paris. Irina de Baghy has given numerous recitals in the United States, Canada and France, particularly at the Amphithéâtre de l'Opéra Bastille, the Studio Théâtre de la Comédie Française, the Salle Berthier, Allanche and various festivals. In 2002, Andrew MacDonald gave him the role of Thetis for the world premiere of his opera Andromache.

She has also performed with various orchestras, the Orchestre National de Lorraine under the direction of Yannis Pouspourikas in Voix Marines by Thierry Pecou; the Orchestre d'Auvergne under the direction of Jurjen Hempel in Bach's Cantata BWV 4; the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under the direction of François-Xavier Roth in Thierry Pecou's La Symphonie du Jaguar.

She also sang with the Maîtrise de Radio France under the baton of Sofi Jeannin in Psalm 51 BWV 1083 after Bach's Pergolesi. She has also participated in the production of Janacek's La petite Renarde cunning, the Reims opera and the Liège opera. In August 2011, she is the guest of the Festival du Périgord Noir.
